On the Go: A Walking Tour of Little Rock for Families
By Little Rock Family

What better way to experience Arkansas’ capital city than by exploring it on foot? Little Rock offers many major attractions and historic landmarks grouped conveniently near each other. Among these fascinating sites are places perfect for families with children of all ages.

Southern Tradition
Start your tour with the 11 a.m. duck march at the Peabody Little Rock. A grand Southern tradition, visitors gather daily to watch the ducks waddle down the red carpet and into the lobby’s fountain. Before you leave, be sure to hop in the glass elevators for a spectacular view of the Arkansas River. From the Peabody, continue east on Markham Street, cross LaHarpe Boulevard and turn left. About one block away is the entrance to Riverfront Park where kids can enjoy a playground and parents can take in the beautiful views.

Afternoon of Discovery
Follow the walking trail east along the river to the The River Market District where you can enjoy lunch at Market Hall. After lunch, continue on to the Museum of Discovery, a hands-on science museum with exhibits for all ages. Fun and educational shows are presented daily, along with numerous exhibits on everything from health to insects. Admission is $6.35 for adults and $5.85 for children.

Time Traveling
For those who enjoy the pioneer spirit, the Historic Arkansas Museum can be found by crossing President Clinton Avenue at LaHarpe Boulevard and walking one block south. Living history characters make Little Rock’s oldest neighborhood come to life each day through demonstrations of pioneer life. The museum center also includes five galleries of Arkansas-made art and a children’s gallery. Exhibits are free, and tours of the grounds are $2.50 for adults, $1.50 for senior citizens and $1 for children younger than 16.
